When The Levee Breaks-- When given really, really good material to work with, Jared always seem to knock it out of the ballpark and this ep is no exception. I love every single scene and line of dialogue and the Sam/Dean fight scene at the end is probably my favourite of them all. All Sam wanted was for his beloved big brother to trust him and stand by his side and believe in him and all he got in return was a repeat of the last words John probably said to him on the night he left for Stanford.
I Know What You Did Last Summer: Great way of revealing what Sam was doing and how he WASN'T coping during the four months Dean was in hell. From Sam wanting to swap places with Dean right there and then, to telling BlondeRuby to "just do it" to the sizzling 'baddirtywrong' sex scene with Ruby, this ep is amazing from start to finish. And of, course there was also Sam stitching up yet another wound and then putting Dean's shoulder back in. There can never be too many brotherly comfort scenes and this is a favourite.
Metamorphosis: Anytime we get to hear and see what Sam is really feeling, is a good time for me. Sure the parallels between Sam and the ruguru were pretty blatant but Sam's terror when locked in the closet and thinking that Dean could be killed AND eaten any second had me shaking and on the edge of my seat.
Jump The Shark: Sam tied up and being bled should not be so bloody HOT but it is and I love it. Also loved seeing Sam getting to be the big brother for once and showing Adam the basics of hunting.
Sex and Violence: Sam/Cara- super, super hot and sexy. Siren-controlled!Dean holding a knife to Sam's throat and cutting him- even hotter and sexier!!!!
Honourable Mention-- Wishful Thinking: Suicidal life-size teddy bears and Dean beginning to crack and reveal Hell and teddy bear doctors, oh my!!!
Swan Song: The first time I've cried watching this amazing show. Sam was so brave and defiant and Dean, despite hating every minute of it, actually had Sam's back and faith that his little brother could overcome Satan and he did. My heart broke for Dean, on his knees beaten to a pulp and grieving for his brother and the hope in his voice when he asked Cas "Are you God?"
For the second time this season, Jared did a phenomenal job playing Lucifer and I more than loved the mirror scene between Sam and Lucifer, especially the revelation that Sam had been surrounded by demons pretty much his whole life.
The End: Our first glimpse of Samifer ( I loved the white suit) but this ep really belongs to Jensen and his amazing portrayal of two Deans, so much the same character and yet so completely different. Bravo, simply bravo, Mr Ackles. Plus 2014Cas is my favourite of all the different Cas's we've seen so far.
Free To Be You And Me: Jess touching Sam's shoulders as she morphs into Lucifer is just about the creepiest thing I've seen on this show. And, oh, the look of despair on Sam's face when Lucifer says I'll just bring you back" just breaks my heart. And I love the BAMF!Sam we see when fighting off the demon blood and those two hunters.
The Dark Side Of The Moon: The trashing of the Amulet, no scene has hurt me more or made me angrier at Dean. But then we also had Dean and young!Sam letting of fireworks and found out that Dean 'wuvs hugs' and Sam had a dog called 'Bones' Sam said he wasn't choosing his memories and I still think it was Zacariah doing it to put a wrench between the boys and it worked.
The Song Remains The Same: Sam meeting Mary for real ('You're so beautiful) and being able to tell his dad that he forgave him and loved him are things I've wanted for him for so very, very long.
Honourable Mentions: Not an ep, but a few special images-- Sampala from Changing Channels, Dean's wink to Sam from Point of No Return, Sam's grin in Curious Case Of Dean Winchester when he says "It's like The Grumpy Old Men."
The Third Man:
I think this says it all, really.
Sam-- soulless and shirtless and sweaty. My favourite Sammy flavour of all.
Clap Your Hands If You Believe: From the X-Files (my first online fandom) inspired opening and credits, this is 100% unfiltered SoullessSam and I love him more than words can say. Flirting with waitresses while Dean is being chased by UFO's, having sex in the dark while Dean is possibly servicing Oberon, Prince of the Fairies.
Sam: Close encounter! What kind? First? Second?
Dean: They’re after me!
Sam: Third kind already? You better run, man. I think the fourth kind is a butt thing.
Dean: Empathy, Sam! Empathy!
Sam: So, you've been hunting UFOs for over three decades and you basically have no concrete data and zero workable leads.
Wayne: Well, I...
Sam: Have you considered the possibility that you suck at hunting UFOs?
Dean: Yes, you sit in the dark and you feel the loss.
Sam: Absolutely, but couldn't I just do all that and have sex with the hippie chick?
Sam: It would be in the dark.
Unforgiven: Sam and Soulless!Sam in the same ep, the best of both worlds. Great job by Jared switching between the two and reminding us how badass Soulless really was, beating the crap out of the deputy, bathroom sex, using the sheriff as bait.
You Can't Handle The Truth: SoullessSam's interrogation of the girl's sister sends shivers down my spine every time I watch it. So cold and heartless and then triumphant once he's got what he wanted. And all the looks between him and Dean and seeing how freaked out Dean is by watching Sam in action.
The Man Who Knew Too Much: Like Jensen in The End, Jared playing multiple versions of Sam in the same scene is simply amazing to watch. Bravo, Mr Padalecki, bravo.
Honourable Mention- The French Mistake: Took me a few re-watches to really appreciate the beauty of this ep but I love it. "You married fake-Ruby?" is one of my all time favourite lines.
